Since 1949, Joyland Amusement Park has been a top draw in central Kansas for many years. Both locals and visitors enjoyed its more than 20 fascinating rides, and each went away with a wealth of memories. However, the park's prosperity continued until 2004, when a tragic accident happened.

A teen who had fallen from the Ferris wheel was hurt. The incident ultimately led to the park's closure and eventual collapse. A number of vandalism, looting, and arson incidents occurred there, and strong winds severely harmed the area. The officials determined in 2015 that it would be best to destroy the park at this time. Many residents who had visited the park several times were observed stopping by to get their final photo at a certain spot.
