1. Russia and Norway

Boundary: Borisoglebsk-Storskog Bridge Gross Domestic Product (GDP): $547 billion (Norway) / $4.148 trillion (Russia)*; Area: 195.7 km The extreme topography difference and cultural division between the Arctic neighbours make this boundary noteworthy. A thin line that passes through the Arctic wilderness marks the border between Russia, the European Union and the NATO member state of Norway. At the Storskog-Borisoglebsk crossing, one can actually step into Russia's Asian expanse. This border is unique not just because of its position but also because of the strong border controls and the combination of Russian and Norwegian influences in the local culture, which are set against the vast, empty Arctic landscapes.
